state fair! state fair!

I want a big red nose I want some floppy shoes
I want a squirty flower squirt it on you
Like all the bad clowns do

state fair!  state fair!!

do you know cross canadian ragweed?  did you see that song like i did when i typed it?

anyway, it's funny to me that this song has been stuck in my head since our trip to the fair yesterday because i hate clowns.  now, i know i shouldn't hate anything so i just very, strongly dislike clowns.  you can't ever tell what they're really thinking.  they hide behind that big, fake, red smile.  i avoid clowns at all costs.  i saw a clown driving a car once and about wrecked.  it was terrifying.  i sincerely hope i don't see another one of those anytime soon.  and i hope that james doesn't want a clown party.  ever.

luckily, there weren't too many clowns at the tulsa state fair so it was pretty easy to avoid the two i saw.  yesterday we had beautiful fair weather.  mr. h and i decided that james wanted to go and people watch and eat yummy food.  well, we actually fed him first but let him have a few bites of funnel cake.  regardless, we were not the only folks who thought the fair sounded great on the 65 degree sunday afternoon.  i think half the state was trying to find a parking spot at the exact same time that we were.  i'm not kidding.  but we parked and walked like everyone else.  no big deal.  of course james got the royal treatment in his buggy.

see that straw? well, as we were waiting in line he was not having the stroller so i gave him a straw.  and it worked.  for a while anyway.  oh but i know you weren't looking at the straw.  you were looking at the bright, red strawberry in the middle of my son's forehead.  as we were walking around and i noticed a lot (i mean a LOT more than average) of people were looking at james.  of course i first thought they are checking out my little stud muffin but then it hit me!  no they're not!  they're checking out the big strawberry in the middle of his face!  all i have to say is that this happened on mr. h's watch.  not mine.  i wasn't anywhere near the incident and the only information i got was that he just fell and that he didn't cry.  now he didn't cry much.  hummm.  i know james falls a lot but i haven't seen him face plant on his forehead before. i also know that my husband doesn't want james to get hurt so it must just be one of those things i need to get used too.  it took a bit but i got used to the fact that james could have a bruise anywhere at anytime.  but cuts and scraps?  this is new and will take a little longer.  fortunately, james doesn't seem to care.  he hasn't acted one bit different.  i'm using a lot of neosporin and aquaphor but it's still there.  i just hope it doesn't stay long.

back to the fair, we went to see the animals.  oh my goodness!  this must have been the thing to do.  there were lines everywhere.  luckily, james didn't act too interested so we didn't let him ride the mini horses or camels.  i think he's still too young small anyway.  we went and check out the chickens and other little livestock but didn't want to wait and pay for the petting zoo.  we will next year but this year was just crazy and you had to leave your stroller just in a big mess of strollers.  it would have been nice but we'll tackle it next year.  we think we'll try to go early and beat the crowd too.

we ended up spending most of our time inside the quiktrip center at the playhouses.  shocker.  first was this shed (like the small ones for outside) with a window and a door and you would have thought this were a rocket ship to the moon.  the kids LOVED it.  it was cute with a porch and a loft but the stairs to the loft were boarded.  that was a relief.  james didn't know he was missing the scary part or he wouldn't have been trying to climb those stairs the entire time.  because you know my climbing son, he would have been up there in no time.
the second play area were those big, outdoor playgrounds for sale.  for thousands of dollars.  no, we weren't interested in purchasing one but we'll join in all the other kids and let james play.  he loved it.  he mainly stayed in the only thing he could really do - this little covered house with windows to look out.

big kids were coming and going.  james was squealing with delight.  until we decided it was time to go.  no, he did not want back in his stroller and no he wasn't going to go quietly.  we bribed him.  goldfish - they work every single time.  we strolled around a bit more but then decided to call it a day.
james instantly fell asleep once we got him in his carseat.  he took a brief nap before dinner.  dinner?  i know, you'd think we'd be stuffed from fair food but no.  i had one regular corndog.  it was burnt.  and part of a funnel cake.  i wanted dip n' dots ice cream, fried pickles and a smoked turkey leg and maybe some of that corn but it just didn't happen.  i also didn't see the krispy creme hamburger stand but i wouldn't have wanted that anyway.

over all it was a great afternoon.  it was nice to be with my family and enjoy the weather.  the people watching was nice too.  i feel incognito in my sunglasses so i got to check out some interesting people.  oh the fair.  good times.
